Welcome to our new web site. I appreciate your patience as we continue to make changes to the site. I hope that you will visit the site often as it will have updated society news for you with educational opportunities; society news; information on public affairs; messages from our students; news you need to know about the AAMA and so much more.
We have decreased the number of issues for the NYSSMA Today, and will add a “newsletter” to the web site. If you have any information that you would like to include in either the publication or the newsletter—let us know. If you need to get the newsletter by hard copy, please let me know.
Employment opportunities will also be featured on the web site, whether you’re seeking employment or an employee, let me know. Recently I have had two job listings, and have sent those to the region they are in, but going forward, they will be on the web site.
Awards: information and applications for the Professional Achievement Award and the NYSMA Professional Leadership Award will continue to be on the web site. I know that so many of you may meet the qualifications. I hope you will consider applying.
Convention 2016 will be in Syracuse. Preliminary details will be on the web site soon.
Dorothy Ross Scholarship Award: The application for this award also is on the web site. Students take a look. Educators: Watch your mail in late August-early September. The committee mails information about the award and the professional organization to all of you.
Education Committee will keep you informed about upcoming seminars & workshops.
We are hoping to have a few educator workshops, and student seminars. Please let me know if you would be willing to host one of these. The committee does the work, and you provide a site. We can also assist with seminars in your regions. Some of our chapters have many members, and are not getting CEUs at monthly meetings for mini seminars and we can help.
Our Historian keeps a terrific history of NYSSMA. If you’re cleaning things out and have photos; old publications or any NYSSMA history that you would like to part with—don’t throw it out—get it to Lee Damon.
Our Marketing & Membership Committee will welcome new members, shall info with chapter presidents; advise chapter presidents of new members and share marketing tools with the chapters. Don’t forget to get ready for Medical Assistants Recognition Week (and day). Is always the third week (full week) of October. You can get information and a poster from AAMA. Go to their web site www.aama-ntl.org to request one.
Chapter Presidents, Educators and Office Managers: Please share with us how you will recognize members, students and employees.
The Nominating Committee begins its work as soon as our General Assembly ends. It has been difficult to fill some positions, and I hope you will consider taking a leadership role in the future.
The Policy & Procedural Manual is updated. Thank you to
those of you that participated in the last board meeting in which we accomplished so much. It will be put on flash drives for offices, committee chairs and chapter presidents.
The Public Affairs Committee will plan to meet with new leaders in a variety of organizations. Our colleagues in Connecticut have passed another hurdle in their quest for scope of practice. I haven’t heard from anyone recently that is having new issues with their scope of practice.
Resolutions: there is only one resolution to be considered in the AAMA House of Delegates and it’s ours. The topic is the Marketing of Tobacco to underage people with the tobacco ads that cover the stores. We will be sharing information about this on the web site, and I hope you will share it with members, employers and your local legislators.
Our Ways & Means Committee is always looking for new NYSSMA promotional items. Let us know if there is something you’d like to see. We will have the name badge wallets for the next convention. We have NYSSMA binders, the dividers; koozies, lanyards, zip drives with the NYSSMA logo; and t-shirts. We are hoping to have an online store for our products in the very near future.
The October Board Meeting is open to all members. Invited Chapter Presidents & Invited Committee Chairs will have financial assistance. All others can attend at your own expense. Details will be finalized soon.
2016 Convention will be April 14,15,16 & 17 at the Embassy Suites East Syracuse, NY
Affordable 2 room suites, cooked to order breakfast, managers reception (open bar & snacks) and so much more.
Watch for the follow up to the 2015 AAMA Conference.
