President’s Message-October 2016
I had the honor of representing NYSSMA at the 60th Annual AAMA Convention in Reston in September. While I was there, I spoke with many leaders and members of AAMA. Their enthusiasm and willingness to take an active role in our organization was an inspiration.
I would like to encourage all of you to become active in your local chapters and NYSSMA. There are many opportunities for you to provide your support.
You can look forward to attending one of the many educational seminars being held throughout the state during the year. More information about these seminars can be found elsewhere in this issue and on the NYSSMA website (www.nysmedassist.org). At these seminars, items may be available for purchase. These items have the NYSSMA logo and the money raised help to support our activities. These items would also show that you are proud of belonging to your organization.
Think about volunteering to work on a committee, either in your local chapter or NYSSMA. Speak to your chapter president or contact me with any questions (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Promote yourself as a CMA (AAMA). A few ideas you can easily do:
- Hang a poster celebrating Medical Assistants Recognition Week (MARWeek) (contact AAMA at www.aama-ntl.org to request promotional items).
- Send a letter to the editor of your local paper to promote the profession. Sample letters and other information can be found on the AAMA website.
- Bring a cake into work on Medical Assistants Recognition Day (Wednesday, October 19) to celebrate and recognize all the medical assistants in your office.
****Plan on attending the NYSSMA Convention on April 20-23, 2017 in Johnson City. It will be held at Traditions at the Glen. Information can be found in this issue and on the website.****
